How much does a missed call actually cost?
It is not the call that costs, it is the customer. Multiply the number of calls you do not answer by the value of one new customer, then discount for the ones who call back. Most small businesses find the annual figure is larger than any single line on their expenses.
What share of business calls go unanswered?
That depends entirely on your day, which is why it is an input rather than a fixed assumption. Shops and clinics with one person on the desk typically lose calls at lunch, after hours, and whenever someone is already being served. Use your own phone log if you have one.
Is this calculator based on published statistics?
Partly. The value of a customer and your answer rate are yours to supply, because nobody publishes them for your business. The employee price is our real published price. What we do not do is invent an industry average and present it as a finding.
